1 bomb goes off, 1 defused in Pakistan

LAHORE, Pakistan, April 24 (UPI) -- A bomb went off at a train station in Lahore, Pakistan, and a larger one was defused after it was found on a train in Attock, authorities said.

Police said the Lahore blast killed at least three people and injured as many as 35 others, The Nation reported. The dead included a station porter and a police constable.

Some of the injured were women and children.

The blast shattered windows in nearby buildings, police said.

Investigators said as much as 20 pounds of explosives were concealed in a bag placed near a ticket office, The Nation reported. The bomb went off about 5 minutes after the Awam Express pulled out.

Geo News reported bomb disposal experts deactivated a 44-pound bomb found in a bag on the Peshawar-bound Awam Express passenger train at the Attock railway station Tuesday night.
