Van explosion kills seven in Pakistan

PESHAWAR, Pakistan, April 4 (UPI) -- A bomb exploded near a van packed with passengers Wednesday, killing at least seven people and injuring six others in a tribal area of Pakistan, police said.

The van was enroute from Khurrakai village to Tehsil Jamrud of Khyber Agency when the blast occurred, the Pakistani news agency INP reported.

Officials said there was no immediate claim of responsibility for the explosion and an investigation was underway.

Security personnel cordoned off the entire area and initiated a search for those responsible.

So far there has been no official word on whether the blast was a roadside bomb or an explosive device planted in the van.

The Zakhakhel tribe in Khyber Agency took up arms against insurgents in the region and several tribesmen have been the target of attacks, the news agency said.
