CAIRO, Sept. 26 (UPI) -- Leaders of the Fatah Party and Hamas will meet in Cairo next month to discuss Palestinian reconciliation, a Fatah committee member said Monday.

Committee member Azzam al-Ahmed said the meeting will address political issues and Palestine's future, among other issues, the Middle East News Agency reported.

Fatah and Hamas signed a reconciliation pact in May, but disagreed on some terms, including Fatah's insistence on nominating Prime Minister Salam Fayyad for the next government, something Hamas opposes.

Regardless of statements made by Hamas leadership, Ahmed said, "reconciliation and national unity are bigger."
