PARIS, June 6 (UPI) -- The father of Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit has asked a Paris court to determine who abducted his son and issue an international arrest warrant.

Shalit was abducted in a cross-border raid in June 2006 and has been held incommunicado in Gaza since.

Noam Shalit told Israel Radio Monday his son has dual Israeli French citizenship.

Shalit said he decided to seek justice for his son in France because according to the law there a person who commits a felony against a French citizen can be prosecuted anywhere in the world.

Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak discussed a possible deal to release Shalit in a telephone call with Egyptian military leader Mohammed Tantawi Sunday, Ynetnews reported.

A statement issued by the ministry said Barak and Tantawi discussed the immediate release of Shalit, who has been held captive for 1,807 days.

Political sources told Ynetnews a deal involving Shalit's release had reached a sensitive stage.
