Mystery over $37M lottery winner's death

April 12, 2011 at 7:38 AM   |   Comments

TORONTO, April 12 (UPI) -- Mystery surrounds the death of a reclusive Toronto man who worked as a clerk and won $37 million in a national lottery in 2007, the Toronto Sun said Tuesday.

Graham Gelineau, 59, was living alone in a boarding house when he won the Lotto 6/49 Lotto jackpot, but didn't tell friends or family anything about the money.

The newspaper said reporters were unable to learn Gelineau cause or date of death as the funeral home cited privacy concerns and Gelineau's wishes. Officials at the funeral home also wouldn't divulge who was handling his estate and said there would be no death notice published.

Acquaintances of the man who worked at an off-track betting shop described him as a quiet, reclusive man who battled obesity.

The day he collected his prize -- the largest in the province of Ontario history -- Gelineau offered few details of his plans for enjoying the windfall.

"My life's going to stay pretty much the same," he said. "That's what I think, but who knows what the future brings?"
