CAIRO, March 17 (UPI) -- Egyptian authorities say they have uncovered an Israeli spy network that operated during the anti-government protests that led to Hosni Mubarak's ouster.
Details reported by al-Masry al-Youm said the incident is the first of its kind since Mubarak was forced to step down as president Feb. 11.
One of the suspects is a 34-year-old Jordanian who arrived in Cairo during the demonstrations and allegedly sent information concerning recordings of phone calls made by Egyptian officials and important locations in Cairo to Israel, the newspaper said.
Egyptian security officials confiscated electronic equipment during a raid on the suspect's home and asked the newspaper to refrain from publishing identifying details until all those involved are arrested.
Other suspects -- an Egyptian citizen and two Israelis -- remain at large, the newspaper said.
The privately owned satellite channel Dream reported a foreigner who gathered information concerning military activities during the protests is also a suspect, the paper said.
Last year the authorities uncovered another cell allegedly involving Mossad agents who sought to recruit operatives to infiltrate the communication sector in Egypt and operate in Syria and Lebanon, the paper said.
