Organizers of Egypt camel clash arrested

CAIRO, March 13 (UPI) -- Egypt says it arrested two members of the Parliament for allegedly hiring pro-Mubarak goons to battle demonstrators at Cairo's Tahrir Square.

The violent Feb. 2 clash became known as "The Battle of the Camels" since some of the backers of President Hosni Mubarak stormed into the downtown square riding camels.

The two parliamentarians were identified as Abdel Nasser el-Gabry and Youssef Khattab, members of Mubarak's National Democratic Party, Bikya Masr said Sunday.

A government fact-finding committee said el-Gabry personally hired a cadre from the Nazlet el-Seman area to break up the sit-in at Tahrir Square. Khattab's alleged role was not detailed by Bikya Masr.

The resulting street battle left several people dead and dozens injured but failed to accomplish the goal of clearing the square.
