MESEBERG, Germany, June 4 (UPI) -- Russian President Dmitry Medvedev touched down in Germany Friday and met informally with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Meseberg.

The get-together, which included dinner and a stroll in a park during which they conversed in English, preceded Saturday's scheduled work meeting, Itar-TASS reported.

"The sides will discuss bilateral relations in the context of the 12th round of interstate consultations planned in Yekaterinburg for July," the Kremlin said. "The international agenda will focus on ways to update European security architecture. The core of these efforts is the Russian initiative of a legally binding treaty on European security put forward by Medvedev in Berlin two years ago, on June 5, 2008."

The Russian news agency reported the Kremlin said the two leaders also will discuss further steps in disarmament and arms control, the Iranian nuclear problem, Afghanistan "and other conflict zones.'

RIA Novosti reported a Kremlin source said Medvedev and Merkel also would go over issues on the agenda of the upcoming Group of 8 and Group of 20 summits to be held in Canada this month.
