Miliband vs. Miliband for Labor leadership

LONDON, May 15 (UPI) -- The fight for British Labor Party leadership turned into a family feud Saturday when ex-Energy Secretary Ed Miliband stepped forward, rivaling brother David.

Miliband said he would not let his political ambitions interfere with his friendship with his older brother David, the former foreign secretary and current front-runner for party leadership, The Mirror reported. He said his mother, to the left of both her sons, would probably vote for Jon Cruddas, a left-wing parliamentary backbencher who is expected to seek the leadership.

"I'm in it to win it, but win or lose we will remain the best of friends and I will still love him dearly," Ed Miliband said at a London news conference. "There is no way I'm going to take lumps out of him either on the record, off the record or behind the scenes. It is not my way of doing politics."

So far, the Miliband brothers are the only declared candidates, although several others are expected to enter the fray in the next few days.

Labor elected representatives and party members have a say in the leadership decision. The executive committee is expected to draw up a timetable in the coming week.
