Prince Andrew at 50: A hard-working royal

LONDON, Feb. 13 (UPI) -- Prince Andrew of Britain, in an interview with the Daily Mail, said he and his ex-wife, the Duchess of York, "are good friends" and she is living with him.

The former Sarah Ferguson, known for her extravagance, is living with her ex-husband because of money troubles, the newspaper said. Andrew, the Duke of York and fourth in line to the throne, turns 50 next week.

In an interview published Saturday, he described a life dominated by his position as British Ambassador for Trade and Industry. Last year, he performed 628 engagements, a busier schedule than Princess Anne, widely regarded as the worker bee of the Windsors.

He said criticism of the amount he spends flying, often using a helicopter for short distances, is unjustified.

"We are doing the job for less money than we were," he said. "Yes, I'm flying a lot. Airmiles Andy is entirely valid as a tag in that I do a lot of air miles."

The office decor in his small suite in Buckingham Palace includes a photo of Andrew with his ex-wife and their two daughters. He said he and Fergie are both "in a better place" and will not remarry.

"I'll give you the answer -- being divorced to, and not being divorced from," he said when asked the secret to a good divorce. "It's why we are good friends. And yes, she is living with me at the moment."
