Czech health official contracts swine flu

PRAGUE, Czech Republic, Feb. 2 (UPI) -- The Czech Republic official in charge of decisions on compulsory swine flu vaccinations says he himself has caught the virus.

Novinky.cz reported that Czech chief sanitary officer Michael Vit called in sick with the swine flu Monday after failing to receive a vaccination himself, the Czech news agency CTK said.

"I suffer from muscle troubles, I have a headache, I simply have all symptoms of flu," Vit is quoted as saying. Noting that most flu cases this year have been of the swine flu variety, he added, "I´m absolutely convinced that I've caught it as well."

The Web site said Vit, 58, was to receive a swine flu vaccination in the next few days but now will forgo one.

"This is meaningless for me at the moment, as my organism will create certain antibodies by overcoming swine flu. I don´t suffer from other health problems, therefore, I believe I'll be fit in a week," Vit said.
