March 24 (UPI) -- Amtrak's high-speed Acela train derailed Friday morning in New York City as it left Penn Station in midtown Manhattan.
The front end of the Acela Express Train 2151, which had arrived from Boston and was heading for Washington, D.C., derailed at approximately 9 a.m. as it pulled out of the station at low speed, an Amtrak statement said. The rear end of the train stayed on the track, but the derailed train scraped a NJ Transit train that was pulling into the station, causing some damage. The transit train safely arrived at the station, and passengers exited at the platform.
