WASHINGTON, May 6 (UPI) -- Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus said it will "take some time" but eventually, House Speaker Paul Ryan will endorse the GOP's presumptive nominee, Donald Trump.

Priebus, speaking at an event hosted by Politico on Friday, said he has had multiple conversations with both Trump and Ryan in the hours since Ryan said he was not ready to get behind Trump as the party's standard-bearer in the 2016 general election.

Ryan said Thursday he believes Trump has more work to do to unite the party and for this reason is "not ready" to support him "at this point."

"I think what is required is that we unify this party. And I think the bulk of the burden on unifying the party will have to come from our presumptive nominee," Ryan told Jake Tapper of CNN.

Priebus said he is in the process of brokering a face-to-face meeting between the two men to help smooth things over.

"And so I'm comfortable with the idea that it is going to take some time in some cases for people to work through differences," he said. "We talked about it and talked about it multiple times and they're very comfortable with sitting down with Donald Trump, and it may be at my office, it may be somewhere else but we're going to have that meeting to start the process of unifying."
