ROCHESTER, N.Y., Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Two University of Rochester students were rescued one day after allegedly being kidnapped when police stormed a home and detained four suspected kidnappers.

Seniors Ani Okeke Ewo and Nicolas Kollias -- each 21-year-old Illinois natives on the school's football team -- were reported missing "under suspicious circumstances" by Rochester police Saturday. Authorities issued a state-wide alert Sunday.

Police Chief Robert Ciminelli later said the men had been "forcibly abducted" and found in a house about four miles from the campus. The two men were released after SWAT teams and hostage negotiating teams arrived at the house Sunday evening. Each was hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, though one was shot in the leg prior to the rescue.

The four suspects will likely face kidnapping and assault charges, Ciminelli said, adding Ewo and Kollias were targeted by the suspects, and other arrests may follow. Ciminelli also said there is no general threat to the school or its students.

Ewo is a cornerback and Kollias is a defensive end on the school's football team.
