Skippy peanut butter recalled, possible metal shavings in jars

WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 (UPI) -- Some Skippy brand peanut butter is being recalled due to the possibility of metal shavings in the jars, the Food and Drug Administration reported.

Metal was found in 16.3-ounce jars of Skippy Reduced Fat Creamy Peanut Butter Spread during routine cleaning at a manufacturing plant, and Hormel Foods Sales will voluntarily recall 153 cases, or 1,871 pounds, of the product.

The jars have a "Best if used by" stamp of DEC1416LR1 with a package UPC code of 37600-10500. The recalled products were sent to distribution centers for Publix, Target and Walmart stores in Georgia, Virginia, Alabama, North Carolina, South Carolina, Delaware and Arkansas.

There have been no reports of accidental ingestion of any foreign substances in the peanut butter. Customers of the product are asked to return the jars to the place of purchase for replacement, or to phone Hormel Foods Customer Relations at 1-800-475-4779 for more information.
