SCRANTON, Pa., April 15 (UPI) -- Police are investigating after the gravestone belonging to Hugh Rodham, Hillary Clinton's father, was knocked over in a Scranton, Pa., cemetery.

A representative at Washburn Street Cemetery reported to police on Tuesday the gravestone had been toppled at some point in the previous few days. It had been in the upright position Friday, Police Chief Carl Graziano told the Scranton Times-Tribune.

Graziano said it's possible it was an act of vandalism.

"I'm not sure how else it would have fallen over," he said.

Cemetery caretaker Paul McGloin said the intact gravestone had been uprighted Tuesday.

The incident happened just days after Clinton announced her candidacy for president.

"I hope this had nothing to do with politics because that's just wrong," McGloin said.

Investigators are treating the incident as suspicious.

Graziano told WYOU-TV in Scranton a person was removed from the cemetery Monday for a mental health evaluation, but so far that person hasn't been linked the overturned gravestone.
