Michael Brown's family plans to file wrongful-death lawsuit

ST. LOUIS, March 5 (UPI) -- Michael Brown's family announced Thursday they plan to file a wrongful-death lawsuit against the city of Ferguson, Mo., and Darren Wilson, the police officer who fatally shot him in August.

Attorney Anthony Gray did not provide specific details about the pending lawsuit, only to say it will be filed "soon." Gray and attorney Daryl Parks, said they disagree with the Justice Department's decision to not charge former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson in the August shooting that left Brown, 18, dead.

"We feel Officer Darren Wilson did not need to shoot and kill Michael Brown, Jr. in broad daylight in the manner that he did," Gray said.

The teen's parents, Michael Brown Sr. and Lesley McSpadden, appeared at a news conference to discuss the DOJ's decision, but did not talk about the pending lawsuit on the advice of their attorneys.

Brown was shot by Wilson in a struggle. Wilson said he shot Brown in self-defense, and the DOJ report released Wednesday supported that claim. On Wednesday night, protesters returned to the police department to demonstrate against the DOJ's findings.
