WASHINGTON, March 4 (UPI) -- The United States Postal Service has unveiled the Forever postage stamp commemorating the life of author and poet Maya Angelou.

Angelou, well-known for the poem "I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings," is featured on the stamp along with the quote: "A bird doesn't sing because it has an answer, it sings because it has a song."

Angelou received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2011 and recited one of her pieces at President Bill Clinton's inauguration in 1993.

"Maya Angelou inspired our nation through a life of advocacy and through her many contributions to the written and spoken word," Postmaster General Megan Brennan said in a statement. "Her wide-ranging achievements as a playwright, poet, memoirist, educator, and advocate for justice and equality enhanced our culture."

Angelou died last year at the age of 86.

The stamp is available for pre-order on the USPS website.
