Woman struck and killed by BART train in San Leandro

Trains began running again before midday but delays continued throughout the system.

SAN FRANCISCO, Nov. 6 (UPI) -- A BART train struck and killed a woman after she stepped in front of the train at the San Leandro station on Thursday morning.

BART spokeswoman Alicia Trost said the incident was reported at 9:31 a.m. involving the train traveling from Fremont to Daly City.

The victim was originally described as a minor but the police later clarified it was an adult in her 30s. The train did an emergency stop between the Fruitvale Station in Oakland and the Bay Fair Station in San Leandro.

Trains began running again before midday but delays continued throughout the system.
