PUEBLO, Colo., Oct. 29 (UPI) -- A Colorado man who was found after going missing for five days from a Denver Broncos game told officials he left the game because he wanted to go somewhere warmer.

Paul Kitterman's family reported him missing after he disappeared from Thursday's Broncos game against the San Diego Charges at Mile High Stadium.

Kitterman, 53, was attending his first professional football game with his son, Jarod, and disappeared while Jarod was using the men's room during halftime.

Police found Kitterman on Tuesday in Pueblo, Colo., where he apparently traveled on foot. He was found in a Kmart parking lot after police received a tip.

Kitterman allegedly told police he left the game because he "had his fill" of football and wanted to go somewhere warmer. Police said he informed them he didn't want to be recognized and found, so he ditched his Broncos hat.

Police said that though Kitterman answered questions intelligibly and was physically sound, he was not very forthcoming about why he did not want to be found.

His family took to Facebook after he was safely found to release a statement.

"The family of Paul Kitterman would like to thank each and everyone of you for your support and kindness," the statement read. "We cannot thank you all enough and will be forever grateful to all of you. The family is happy to report Paul has been found and they are now with him and he is safe. The family wanted to hold of reporting that Paul was located due to the fact they wanted to ensure it was Paul that was located and not someone else. The family is very much part of this page and read the comments on here. We know there are many questions that some of you may have but for the time being we are asking that you respect there privacy as they have been through a lot. We love all of you and we will never forget your kindness, compassion, and your willingness to help us find Paul. God Bless all of you...."
