TERRE HAUTE, Ind., Oct. 8 (UPI) -- An Indiana anesthesiologist killed his nurse wife and then took his own life hours after their wedding, police in Terre Haute said.

Officers responded to the home of Dr. George "Scott" Samson, 54, shortly after 1:30 a.m. Sunday after a series of frantic calls to 911 from his wife, Kelly Ecker Samson, 50. They found her body in a bedroom and his in the basement.

Both died from gunshot wounds, police said.

The couple were married Saturday evening, police said.

"They had just gotten married, and something went terribly wrong," Dr. Susan Amos, the Vigil County coroner, said. "He shot her, and then shot himself."

Police said officers reached the house minutes after the first 911 call. In the first, Ecker Samson said her husband was going to kill her, and in the third the dispatcher heard gunshots.

Vigo County Sheriff's Deputy Clark Cottom said Samson had several dozen firearms stored in the basement along with hundreds of rounds of ammunition.
