Grandmother charged with giving toddler meth tea

IDYLLWILD, Calif., July 1 (UPI) -- A woman has been charged in Southern California with leaving a cup of methamphetamine tea where her toddler granddaughter could reach it.

Cynthia Watson, 51, of Aloha, Ore., was arrested in Idyllwild, Calif. Police said an Idyllwild woman called 911 Monday because her 2-year-old daughter had become agitated, refused to sleep and was talking at high speed.

Tests found the girl had ingested methamphetamine. Police said that Watson, who was visiting from Oregon, made tea for herself, put meth in it and then put the cup down in a place where the toddler could get hold of it and drink it.

Watson faces charges that include drug possession and child endangerment. Her bail was set at $35,000.
