Medical marijuana farmers' market to open in L.A.

LOS ANGELES, June 27 (UPI) -- This Fourth of July, Los Angeles will celebrate America's independence with the nation's first medical marijuana farmers' market.

Held July 4-6, the California Heritage Market aims to build relationships between patients and growers by directly connecting the two sides the pot sale.

"It's going to be so much easier for patients to get their medicine at a more affordable rate, and something that they can trust," California Heritage Market executive administrator Paizley Bradbury explained to TIME Magazine.

"They can say 'How did you grow this? Is it organic? What kind of nutrients did you use? What kind of strain is this?' There's just so much more behind it."

The California Heritage Market is not just a one time event -- East Los Angeles' West Coast Collective dispensary will host the pot-swap every weekend following its Independence Day debut, provided no legal troubles arise.

"With this industry, you just never really know how things are going to turn out until after you do it."
