SALEM, N.J., June 26 (UPI) -- A young mother was viciously beaten by a McDonald's employee in front of her son and onlookers caught the incident on video instead of helping the woman.
The video shows the assailant and her soon-to-be victim briefly arguing before the McDonald's employee throws the young mother to the ground, repeatedly punches her in the face then kicks her while she writhes in defense.
Although the mother's toddler-age son attempted to stop the attack, none of the adult onlookers took any action.
While prosecutors may appreciate the abundance of evidence against 25-year-old Latia Harris, local police were appalled that no one came to her victim's aide.
"There is a moral and social breakdown in the fabric of our society, which is clearly evident when a woman gets pummeled in broad daylight in front of her child while a dozen people pull out their phones to record the incident instead of calling for help," Salem Police Chief John Pelura told the South Jersey Times.
"There is so little regard for human life – by [Harris] and the bystanders."
Harris has not yet been apprehended by police, but bail has been set at $35,000 when she is. Police are trying to locate Harris through family members.
