KNOXVILLE, Tenn., May 27 (UPI) -- A man suspected of killing his sister and two other people in central Florida died Tuesday after a standoff with police at a Days Inn near Knoxville, Tenn.
Police released few details about the death of David Eugene Smith, 27. The Knox County Sheriff's Office said he died at the University of Tennessee Medical Center.
The suspect, David Eugene Smith, 27, brought the police to the Days Inn Motel, investigators said. He called 911 shortly before 9:30 a.m., telling the dispatcher he was wanted for murder in Florida and hoped to die by a police bullet.
The Lakeland Ledger in Florida said Smith's family described him as suffering from post-traumatic stress after service in the Army. He allegedly killed Danyalla Smith, 31, Nikosi Williams, 25, and Miranda Mims, 28, and then drove away in his father's car, WFTS in Tampa reported.
The bodies were found Monday evening.
