FORT MYERS, Fla., April 21 (UPI) -- A crash that hurt 21 people at an Easter concert at a Fort Myers, Fla., church appears to be "an unfortunate traffic accident," a police officer says.
The car, a Lexus, was driven by a young woman trying to park Sunday evening at the Second Haitian Baptist Church. About 200 people were in the church for the concert.
"I heard the building pop and saw a car pushing in," Nicholas Plancher, a member of the church, told the Fort Myers News-Press.
Lt. Victor Medico of the Fort Myers police said the driver told them something went wrong with her brakes after she turned into the parking lot. While Medico described the crash as "an unfortunate traffic accident," he said investigators are still looking into what happened.
Members of the congregation tried to use car jacks to free some of the trapped victims, Medico said. He said 30 to 40 people were in the pews in the area where the Lexus came through the wall.
