PLEASANT GROVE, Utah, April 17 (UPI) -- Pleasant Grove, Utah, police said home births and hiding under baggy clothing allowed Megan Huntsman to give birth to seven babies and allegedly kill six of them without anyone, including her husband, knowing.
Huntsman, 39, was arrested after a family member -- who was cleaning out Huntsman's former Pleasant Grove, Utah, home -- discovered the body of a baby that "appeared to be full term" in a cardboard box in the garage.
Police later found six more infant bodies. Huntsman is suspected of strangling or suffocating six of the babies. One was believed to be stillborn.
Police believe Huntsman to be the mother of all seven babies and her estranged husband, Darren Brad West, is believed to be the father. DNA evidence taken from the corpses was being tested to confirm.
West told investigators he had no idea Huntsman was pregnant, and police believe family members didn't know she was pregnant with her two living daughters until the day she gave birth to them, either.
Pleasant Grove Police Capt. Michael Roberts suspects Huntsman wore baggy clothing and remained indoors, effectively hiding the pregnancies.
One neighbor said Huntsman had recently gone to the hospital due to suffering a miscarriage.
Roberts said investigators think they know a motive for the killings, but he would not reveal their suspicions.
