NEW YORK, March 10 (UPI) -- U.S. prosecutors subpoenaed the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey for records of potential conflict of interest for the authority's head.
Port Authority Chairman David Samson is a political ally of New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, himself under fire following lane closures at the busy George Washington Bridge in September.
The business dealings of Samson and his law firm, Wolff & Samson, have come under scrutiny in the growing scandal involving the lane closures, reportedly carried out by Christie aides in political retaliation, the New York Times reported.
Christie has denied knowledge about the lane closures and has said he stands behind Samson.
The lane closures are subject of a federal inquiry in New Jersey by prosecutors investigating the roles of several current and former aides and allies of Christie.
Neither of the federal prosecutor's offices would comment on the subpoena or its possible link to the bridge inquiry, the Times said.
