Dalai Lama opens Senate session with prayer

Hopefully the Senate will remember some of his words.

WASHINGTON, March 6 (UPI) -- The Dalai Lama opened a Senate session with a prayer Thursday, saying, "with our thoughts, we make the world."

After the session was officially called to order the Dalai Lama began with a prayer calling the Members to pray to Buddha or all other gods. He delivered the prayer in his native Tibetan but then translated for the Senate with what he jokingly called his "broken English" and non-American pronunciation.

"With our thoughts, we make our world," said the Dalai Lama. "Our mind is central and precedes our deeds. Speak or act with a pure mind and happiness will follow you like a shadow that never leaves."

He wished for good fortune and said he prays this daily to give him the guidance and strength to lead.
