FBI seeks Montana fugitive convicted sex offender

SALT LAKE CITY, Feb. 21 (UPI) -- The FBI is seeking a convicted sex offender who escaped from custody in Bozeman, Mont., after being charged with assaulting a woman.

Kevin Briggs, who is also charged with assaulting a police officer during his arrest Feb. 1, is believed to have traveled to Missoula, Mont., 200 miles northwest of Bozeman that day and bought a bus ticket there to Spokane, Wash., the FBI said in a release this week. There have been no reports of him since then.

A federal warrant charging him with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was issued Feb. 7.

The FBI said Briggs may be in Washington, Oregon or California and may have made it over the border to Mexico.

Briggs, who was on probation after being convicted in 2004 of sexual intercourse without consent, kidnapping and other charges, was a college student in chemical engineering at the time of his arrest. He has worked for a hotel and a landscaping company.

The FBI said he might be staying in homeless shelters and trying to earn enough money to get out of the country.

Briggs was described as about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and brown-haired with hazel eyes. He has a sunburst tattoo around his right nipple, tattoos in his armpit and lower lip and several piercings.
