NAPA, Calif., Feb. 4 (UPI) -- A California woman and her boyfriend made a brief court appearance Tuesday on charges of killing her 3-year-old daughter.
Documents released in the case said Sara Krueger and Ryan Scott Warner admitted they stashed Kayleigh Slusher's body in a suitcase and stored it in a freezer after killing her, the San Francisco Chronicle reported. Police doing a welfare check Saturday found Kayleigh's body in her bed in Krueger's home in Napa, north of San Francisco.
Investigators believe Kayleigh was fatally beaten Thursday, a day after an earlier welfare check.
Krueger, 23, and Warner, 26, were shackled and dressed in jail jumpsuits. They did not enter pleas, saying they cannot afford lawyers, and were ordered held without bail pending another hearing Feb. 25.
The couple were arrested Sunday by Bay Area Rapid Transit police.
