NEWARK, N.J., Dec. 31 (UPI) -- A 15-year-old boy was arrested in the Christmas Day shooting deaths of two Newark, N.J., teens, one a girl struck by a stray bullet, prosecutors said Tuesday.
Zainee Hailey, 13, was shot and killed while taking trash to the curb at her parents' home. Kasson Morman, 15, was also killed in the shooting, and Abdul Frazier, 14, was shot in the neck and seriously injured, authorities said.
The (Newark) Star-Ledger reported sources, requesting anonymity, said the alleged shooter was apparently angry with either Morman or Frazier after one of the two allegedly "hit on" a girl he was dating. The sources added the suspect felt "disrespected" by one of the boys.
Dozens of mourners at Zainee Hailey's funeral Tuesday in Elizabeth, N. J., wore pins with her picture and the phrase, "A gun took my life. Please put the guns down!"
After the funeral at New Zion Baptist Church, the girl's father, James Hailey, said news of the arrest brought him "Justice. Justice and peace."
He mother, Monica Gilford, added, "I'm glad they caught them."
