Mom, boyfriend get life sentences for Baby Elaina's death

TOLEDO, Ohio, Dec. 3 (UPI) -- An Ohio woman and her boyfriend received life sentences Tuesday for killing her 18-month-old daughter, who became known as Baby Elaina.

Steven King II, 24, pleaded guilty to aggravated murder, abuse of a corpse and other crimes, The (Toledo) Blade reported. He will not be eligible for parole until he has served 24 years.

Angela Steinfurth, 25, entered an Alford plea, acknowledging there was enough evidence to convict her of aggravated murder and obstruction of justice. She must serve at least 18 years.

Elaina Steinfurth was reported missing June 2 after Steinfurth told her estranged husband she could not find the girl. The report set off a massive search in the Toledo area, until the body was discovered in early September in the garage of King's Toledo home.

King told the Lucas County court he smothered Elaina after finding her injured.

Steinfurth did not make any statement, but prosecutors said she injured Elaina because she was frustrated with her crying and that King then killed the girl because Steinfurth feared her other daughter would be taken away from her if the injuries were reported.

An autopsy found Elaina had five bone fractures.
