Zumba instructor convicted of prostitution freed from Maine jail

ALFRED, Maine, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- A former fitness instructor convicted of running a prostitution business out of her Zumba studio in Maine was freed from jail Saturday, a jail employee said.

A jail administrator said Alexis Wright, 30, of Kennebunk was released from York County Jail after serving just over half of her 10-month sentence, the Bangor Daily News reported.

Wright had pleaded guilty to 16 prostitution-related counts and two counts each of theft by deception and state income tax evasion. Dozens of other counts were dropped under the plea deal she struck with county prosecutors.

Wright's business partner, Mark Strong, served 15 days in jail after being convicted of promoting prostitution and conspiracy to promote prostitution. Sixty-eight people were charged with engaging in prostitution.
