ALTOONA, Iowa, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- Congressman Paul Ryan told an audience in Iowa that they shouldn't have trusted Barack Obama's campaign promises about the Affordable Care Act.
"The next time you have a famous politician coming through Iowa, breezing through the towns, talking about big government, let's be a little more skeptical," he said Saturday at a fundraiser for Gov. Terry Branstad in Altoona.
The trip marked the first time Ryan returned to Iowa since he and Romney campaigned there before the 2012 general elections.
"As I look back at the campaign, the problem Mitt and I had was that we were arguing against big government in theory," said Ryan, a congressman from Wisconsin. "Here's the difference now: We've got big government in practice."
Ryan said that Democrats were dishonest when they said that people who like their health insurance policies would be able to keep them, the Des Moines (Iowa) Register reported.
"You don't shut out the opposition, you don't cram (through) a bad bill, you don't say one thing when you know it's another thing, and then when it all blows up in your face, 'I'm sorry' is just not going to cut it," he said.
