Psychic arrested for allegedly swindling woman out of $100,000

BOCA RATON, Fla., Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A 23-year-old psychic from Florida is facing fraud charges for allegedly scamming a grieving woman out of a $100,000 inheritance, authorities say.

The psychic, Stephanie Thompson, is accused of telling the victim, a 30-year-old woman who is not being identified, that family was cursed and the money she inherited from her mother who died 2012 was cursed as well, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

Thompson told the victim to hand over all the money to her for "cleansing rituals," and that she would get the money back later. However, Thompson allegedly gambled the money away.

"There was this feeling of guilt that this money that my dead mother left me is gone," said the victim. "I'm embarrassed; I'm angry. I definitely feel angry more at myself because I know that it's not an unknown thing that there's psychic frauds out there -- especially in Florida."

Thompson, also known as Stephanie Lee and worked at the Psychic Boutique in Boca Raton, was arrested Tuesday and charged with felony fraud and grand theft. She was released Wednesday on $40,000 bail.
