Seventh suspected meningitis case at Princeton University

PRINCETON, N.J., Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A meningitis outbreak at New Jersey's Princeton University was declared after another potential case was found over the weekend, state health officials said.

The New Jersey Department of Health said six confirmed cases have been reported at Princeton since March, and a possible seventh, in a male who has been hospitalized, surfaced over the weekend.

Authorities said all six confirmed cases are of the same strain of meningitis, Type B, although no common link has been identified among the cases.

Symptoms of meningitis include fever, headache, body aches, fatigue, stiff neck, nausea and vomiting. Meningitis vaccines prevent against four different strains of meningococcal disease but not Type B, the news website philly.com said Monday.
