Pilot dies in Texas small plane crash

BOERNE, Texas, Oct. 28 (UPI) -- A small plane crashed east of Boerne, Texas, killing its pilot, the Texas Department of Public Safety reported Monday.

The plane, originally described as a homebuilt aircraft, struck some trees before crashing and catching fire Sunday night, the Federal Aviation Administration said.

The pilot was identified as William Doppelt, 47, of Helotes, the San Antonio Express-News said.

The FAA said Sunday a passenger was on board the plane, but officials said Monday the pilot was alone.

The National Transportation Safety Board initiated an investigation, the newspaper said.
