Suspect who shot two police officers shot, killed in manhunt

CEDAR HILL, Mont., Oct. 11 (UPI) -- A man who allegedly shot two Jefferson County, Mo., deputies was shot to death by a Cedar Hill, Mo., officer Friday morning, police said.

A police officer involved in the search for Shawn Nims, 40, saw him jump from a front window of a home. The officer ordered Nims to drop the military-style assault rifle he was carrying. When he refused, the officer opened fire, authorities said.

Nims was pronounced dead at the scene.

His death came several hours after Nims, wanted on a felony warrant, ambushed two deputies in a home, firing at them and injuring them, KMOV-TV, St. Louis, reported, adding it was not known if Nims was struck by the officers' return fire, but he escaped.

The woman at whose home Nims was shot was taken into custody, but authorities did not explain her involvement, KMOV-TV said.
