KINGSTON, Mass., Oct. 2 (UPI) -- A Massachusetts state trooper, charged with driving drunk in an off-duty crash that killed a mother and daughter, has been suspended without pay, police said.
John J. Basler, 25, of Kingston, Mass., is charged in a June 22 in which Susan Macchi, 64, and Juliet Macchi, 23, were killed. Basler was injured.
State police suspended Basler after a duty hearing Tuesday, The Boston Globe reported Wednesday.
Basler is charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle and carrying a firearm while under the influence of liquor.
State police said an accident reconstruction team was still investigating the accident. More charges could be filed pending the results of their report, the Globe said.
