Navy commander, agent allegedly swapped info for prostitutes, travel

SAN DIEGO, Sept. 18 (UPI) -- U.S. prosecutors said Wednesday a former captain of the USS Mustin, a Navy special agent and a defense contractor have been arrested for bribery.

The two Navy suspects allegedly gave the defense contractor classified ship information in exchange for prostitutes and luxury travel accommodations, authorities told Stars and Stripes.

Cmdr. Michael Vannak Khem Misiewicz, who commanded the Mustin, was arrested Monday in Colorado and Naval Criminal Investigative Service agent John Bertrand Beliveau II was arrested in Virginia

Leonard Glenn Francis, head of Glenn Defense Marine Asia, which has contracts to provide services for the Navy at ports, was arrested in San Diego.

Francis allegedly conspired to bribe the two other men with prostitutes and travel in exchange for information that allowed him to overcharge the Navy.

The complaint, unsealed Tuesday, states Misiewicz steered aircraft carriers and other ships to international ports with little oversight where Francis' company then charged the Navy millions of dollars for services to the ships.

Beliveau was stationed in Singapore and allegedly provided Francis with information about a NCIS investigation into Francis' contracts, Stars and Stripes said.
