Death toll from church van crash rises to 3

FORT MYERS, Fla., Sept. 16 (UPI) -- The death toll from a church van crash in Florida has risen to three after two more people involved in the crash died of their injuries, officials said.

The crash happened Saturday as a van from Maranatha Seventh-day Adventist Church in Lauderhill drove to Tampa, The Miami Herald reported.

One of the van's tires blew near Fort Myers, causing the van to flip over. Nostra Damas, 20, died Saturday.

Claudine Aveske, 2, and Evelie Jean Francois, 39, died Sunday.

The van was carrying 16 people at the time of the crash, the South Florida Sun Sentinel reported.

The other 13 passengers were injured in the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol said they would verify that everyone was wearing seat belts.
