Ohio woman accused of faking son's cancer

UTICA, Ohio, Sept. 12 (UPI) -- An Ohio woman is accused of faking her 4-year-old son's cancer diagnosis and soliciting donations on his behalf.

Emily Creno, 31, of Utica, Ohio, was charged with child endangerment Wednesday in Licking County Common Pleas Court. Bond was set at $50,000.

Prosecutors say Creno took her son to Children's Hospital in Columbus numerous times with alleged seizures and breathing problems. Medical staff, however, were "unable to find any signs or symptoms of medical distress."

She also shaved the boy's head and told people he would die of cancer, court documents said.

In May, Utica police investigated alleged theft and fraud claims against Creno. At least 20 people said they donated money or goods to her, the news website CentralOhio.com reported Thursday.

An affidavit in support of a search warrant of her home show the child underwent over 20 blood tests, six radiographic studies and over 150 hours of electroencephalogram monitoring, all of which provided normal results.
