Young Michigan teen runaways found safe in Chicago

CHICAGO, Sept. 9 (UPI) -- A young teenage Michigan couple who ran off in an sport utility vehicle about two weeks ago were found safe in Chicago Sunday, police said.

Jayden Thomas, 13, of Clare and Braxton Wood, 14, of Mount Pleasant were found in the back of the 2005 Ford Explorer that belongs to his mother. The SUV was out of gas and its battery was dead, ABC News reported.

Chicago police Sgt. Tim Edeling said the teens had made a beeline from Michigan to Chicago's Wrigley Field neighborhood and had been living in the SUV while "going to the local Starbucks and enjoying our lakefront."

"They seem fine, health wise, and seem to be in good spirits," Sgt. Dennis Connelly said.

Edeling said the young couple, who have been going together for about six months, had run away because their parents didn't want them to be together. They had been scheduled to start their freshman year at different high schools last week.

The teens' families were on their way to Chicago to pick them up, ABC said.
