2 men bitten by sharks off of New Smyrna Beach in Florida

NEW SMYRNA BEACH, Fla., Sept. 8 (UPI) -- Two men suffered non-life-threatening injuries when they were bitten by sharks off of New Smyrna Beach, Fla., officials said.

The pair -- one in his 20s and the other in his 40s -- were knee-deep in the water Saturday afternoon when they were bitten a few minutes apart, CNN reported.

One man was bitten in the foot, and the other in the shin, the Volusia County Sheriff's Office said.

The men went to a nearby medical center for treatment.

More shark attacks take place off the coast of Florida than in all of the other states combined, CNN said.
