Her 11-year-old cousin and a 38-year-old man were wounded. Their injuries were not considered life threatening.

The injured man was identified by his mother as Tommy Briggs. She said he was wounded as he walked down the street.

In calling for the public's assistance to identify the shooters, Police Superintendent Ronald Serpa called the incident "a case of unconscionable, reckless violence, which has devastated yet another New Orleans family, who must now make funeral arrangements for one of its children."

Investigators recovered more than a dozen bullet casings of different types from the scene.
