SAN DIEGO, Aug. 21 (UPI) -- The family of the California man accused of kidnapping Hannah Anderson and killing her mom and brother is seeking DNA samples, a spokesman said.
Andrew Spanswick, a spokesman for James DiMaggio's family, told KGTV, San Diego, "a lot of rumors" were circulating about whether DiMaggio could be the father of "either or both" Hannah and her brother Ethan.
DiMaggio, an Anderson family friend, is accused of killing Hannah's mother and brother, torching his house with the bodies inside, kidnapping Hannah and then going on the run. After an intense, weeklong manhunt, he was spotted in Idaho Aug. 10 and fatally shot by an FBI agent. Hannah was found safe and returned to her father.
Spanswick said DiMaggio's sister, Lora, was making the request, but did not elaborate, CNN reported Wednesday.

"We are going to be requesting from the Anderson family that we try to get DNA samples from Hannah. And if they have anything left from Ethan, that we get a DNA sample," Spanswick said.
CNN said it also tried to contact the Anderson family for comment Tuesday, but did not hear back.
The San Diego County Sheriff's office said it didn't know about a paternity test request.
On Monday, Anderson family spokeswoman Stacy Hess told CNN DiMaggio, 40, had a life insurance policy naming Hannah and Ethan's grandmother, Bernice Anderson, as beneficiaries.
"We find it very strange that he has left all this money without any explanation," Spanswick told KGTV in explaining the request for DNA tests.
"It states specifically that he didn't want to give it to either parent 'cause he didn't trust them," Spanswick said of Hannah's parents.
