Teen says kidnapper tricked her family

SAN DIEGO, Aug. 14 (UPI) -- Hannah Anderson, the California teen kidnapped by a family friend, says he tricked her family into visiting his home, where her mother and brother died.

In her posting on ask.fm, Anderson said James DiMaggio rigged buildings on his property, which was in foreclosure, in Boulevard, a San Diego-area community, to burn, U-T San Diego reported. She said the fire started after she and DiMaggio left and she did not know her mother, Christina, 44, and brother, Ethan, 8, were gone.

DiMaggio, 40, invited them over to ride go-carts and have fun, the 16-year-old San Diego-area girl said.

"He tricked us," she said.

Anderson's page on social networking question-and-answer website was taken down Wednesday, the newspaper said. San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said investigators had been in touch with the girl and her family.

Anderson also said she did not realize she was the focus of a multi-state search until after she was rescued by FBI agents in the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness in Idaho on Aug. 10, several days after her abduction. She said DiMaggio said little about why they were headed to Idaho.

"All he told me was my job was to get him to the river," she said.

DiMaggio's family said his body had been cremated, the Los Angeles Times reported. An Idaho coroner found he had been struck by five bullets during a shootout with the FBI.

DiMaggio's campsite was located after horseback riders reported seeing him and Anderson. The FBI used aerial surveillance to confirm the sighting and then landed agents a long hike away Saturday to avoid alerting DiMaggio.
