Sen. John McCain reports for jury duty

PHOENIX, Aug. 12 (UPI) -- U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., said he was called in for jury duty Monday in Phoenix.

McCain was not selected for the first jury trial of the day in Maricopa County Superior Court, but it remained possible he could be selected later, The Hill reported.

McCain revealed he had been summoned for the citizen's duty in a post on Twitter.

The senator also got called for jury duty in 2005 but was not picked for a jury that heard a DUI case in Phoenix Municipal Court.

The Arizona Republic reported McCain was selected for a pool from which a jury was selected but was not among those picked.

"Just got selected for a panel -- let's see what happens next #juryduty" McCain, R-Ariz., tweeted at 11:13 a.m. local time, which was followed at 12:04 p.m. by, "Not selected for this jury trial, but may need to report back this afternoon #juryduty."

The newspaper said McCain was caught on video earlier walking toward the courthouse in downtown Phoenix.

"Doing my civic duty for a change," a smiling McCain says in the video. "We're going to see if we can't reinstitute law and order here in Maricopa County, which has been badly deteriorating. So we're out to get those criminals, right?

"I've been down here several times and I've never been picked, but you never know. But it's part of our civic duty."
