Officer resigns after charges of trading information for sex

EVERETT, Wash., July 18 (UPI) -- A Washington police sergeant has resigned after he was accused of leaking information about undercover operations targeting a prostitution ring, officials say.

Darrell O'Neill, 58, of Everett had been arrested in June and charged with promoting prostitution and official misconduct.

Shari Ireton, communications director for the Snohomish Sheriff's Office, said O'Neill resigned Tuesday afternoon, ABC News reported Thursday.

Police allege O'Neill traded information about an investigation of a prostitution operation for sex with the ring's leader and others.

Bikini barista stands served as fronts for the prostitution activity, police charged.
